EDUCATION

Educational outreach has been a central tenet of the Concord Chamber Music Society's (CCMS) mission since its creation in 2000 by Boston Symphony Orchestra Violinist Wendy Putnam. The Concord Chamber Music Society educational outreach programs bring musical performances to individuals who wouldn't ordinarily have the opportunity to attend a CCMS concert. Comprised of an annual children's concert, school performances, workshops and Musical Connections, an educational outreach effort designed for amateur musicians and music students, the programs foster an awareness and appreciation of chamber music in people of all ages.

Educational outreach events in recent years include performances in the Thoreau, Alcott and Willard Schools in Concord, MA, and free public master classes for local music students given by Boston Symphony Orchestra Piccoloist Cynthia Evans and CCMS Founder and Director, Wendy Putnam. CCMS has also presented performances and classroom visits for the Carlisle Middle School and the Concord Elementary Schools, and string workshops for the Concord-Carlisle High School Orchestra. CCMS has presented free public masterclasses given by BSO Concertmaster Malcolm Lowe, BSO Principal Violist Steven Ansell and music educator Sally O'Reilly, Professor of Violin at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a Senior Fulbright Lecturer. At no charge, members of the Concord Orchestra, Concord area music students and young musicians from the Greater Boston Youth Symphony have participated in these classes.

In November 2009, CCMS will offer a unique educational outreach event for music students at the Concord Carlisle High School. Members of the Concord Chamber Players will give an interactive performance featuring a new work written for CCMS by Mr. Gandolfi. Mr. Gandolfi will be present at the event to speak about his work and about the process by which it was created. The event is generously underwritten by a grant from the Harvard Musical Association, and students from the CCMS band, orchestra and chorus will attend.
