I am pleased to welcome you to the Concord Chamber Music Society’s 17th Season.
As I was planning the performances for 2016-2017, I was struck by the realization that a great deal has occurred in the seventeen years since the inception of this organization. I founded CCMS at the turn of the century and the world is, quite literally, a different place now. Although we have matured a bit over the years, CCMS remains steadfastly committed to its original mission of presenting the highest quality chamber music to our community – a mission in which it has excelled over this period of time.
This season we will present highly anticipated return appearances by artists David Finckel, Wu Han, Glenn Dicterow and Karen Dreyfus. The Chiara Quartet will make its debut performance at CCMS in November: “Playing by Heart,” a program of Mendelssohn, Britten and Beethoven by memory. In addition, my colleagues from the Concord Chamber Players and the Boston Symphony Orchestra will join me in January for a delightful program that juxtaposes music circumnavigating the Romantic period and works with Klezmer influences. This program is the result of one of my favorite pastimes: researching the chamber music repertoire while creating programs that ignite the emotions and spark our thoughts.
As always, esteemed musicologist Steven Ledbetter will present his highly enjoyable and informative pre-concert lectures, providing insight into the repertoire on our programs.
I look forward to experiencing these concerts together and seeing you in October!
With all best wishes,
Wendy L. Putnam
